The graph shows the number of extrusion lines, either completely or partly, supplied by Battenfeld Extrusionstechnik between 1980 and 2008. Battenfeld estimates to have sold about 80% of the total number of extrusion lines worldwide in the range of 800 mm to 2000 mm in this period. Half of these machines were sold in Asia and the Middle East, demonstrating a strong trend to large diameter pipe production in these regions.

Battenfeld noticed that especially in the last few years, more and more manufacturers of large plastic pipes are "playing it safe", and thus tend to buy such large PE extrusion lines from a capable and experienced single source, instead of trying to match different machines (extruders, downstream equipment, etc.) from different suppliers themselves.
